Now, this is what happens when you start building a bike you think you'll keep forever, a tribute bike if you will. It has to be the best, no questions asked. Get the best materials, the best quality components and devote all the skilled labor you can muster. It took the better part of 2 years to complete the project - what started life as a 1977 R100S.
Indeed, an R100S but the fairing was missing so it was re-imagined as a naked bike. It does have the rare dual front disc brakes. Master cylinder was rebuilt, and the brake calipers have new stainless German made pistons. Brake hoses are custom stainless braided lines.
The bike was completely disassembled and the frame, swing arm and anything black was powder coated.
Bodywork was painted in BMW Alpine white with BMW logo; blue hand laid pinstripes were added to the tank, side covers and front fender. A polished Monza style aluminum cap finishes off the tank.
The engine ran great before disassembly, still, it was completely taken apart just so that it could be vapor honed. The main cases, transmission cases, rear differential, cylinders, heads, carburetors, wheel hubs, etc. All were vapor honed.
Engine has new pistons with bored out cylinders. Carburetors have new gaskets and seals and are held on by polished stainless-steel clamps.
All cables are new, new Karcoma petcocks. LED indicators for turn, oil, charging and neutral light.
Tires are Dunlop D404's mounted on specially ordered Italian Borrani rims. Front is 2.5x18 and rear is 3.00x18 - both in the Reinforzato models. Wheels were laced and trued using stainless steel spokes by Buchanan on vapor honed hubs. Wheels are attached to the motorcycle with polished stainless-steel axles and nuts. Wheel hubs have new bearings of course. The new wheel and tire combination provided a more balanced profile - tire sizes are 110/90-18 front & 120/90-18 at the back.
Polished stainless upper triple tree held on by new BMW chrome fork caps and polished stainless center cap. Anything aluminum, like the lower triple or brake pedal was removed and the factory casting ridges smoothed out and polished to a chrome finish. New steering stem neck bearings were installed.
All hardware is stainless with polished acorn nuts where visible. Stainless Keihan exhaust headers with Dunstall silencer mufflers. Mirrors are brand new tall Euro models from BMW's OE supplier Bumm. Seat is a complete brand-new unit.
